Site Wide Information
Demo Content
If you want to test out content on the real site, or share what something might look like with a colleague, without it being visible to the whole world, you can mark items as "demo" using the instructions on the right.
Demo items are invisible on the site by default. To show the demo items on the live page, click the copyright symbol at the bottom of the page. The demo items will be shown.
To create a demo-only item, use the builder to make a wrap with the demo content. Then add the following class to the wrap:
ic-demo-only
To add a class to a wrap, edit it and scroll down to the area titled Custom | Classes
Remove Contact from Footer
On certain pages, for example pages that have a contact button or contact form in them, you may not want to show the Contact Us button in the footer.
To remove the "contact us" button from the footer for just one page, add the following class to the page:
ic-no-contact
To add a class to a page, go to the sidebar, choose the Document tab, and look for Page Classes. Click in the box below it to add a class.
Down Divider - Special Divider
We use an IC thematic divider on our pages to create space and indicate that another section is coming below. Clicking on the down icon in the divider scrolls to the next section.
The easiest way to get a down divider is to use the available Template. Choose Import/Template at the bottom of the builder.
Otherwise, for manual setup:
To create an IC thematic "next section" divider:
Create a wrap. Name it Down Divider (optional, strongly recommended). Give it the following class (Custom | Classes):
ic-divider
Add an Icon Box item that spans the whole wrap. Type icon-down-circled in the Icon box. In the Link box, enter an anchor that will be the name of the next section. You can use any word, but remember that when the user clicks the down arrow, that word will be in their browser bar. Prefix the name with a hash sign. For example:
#moreinfo
In the very next wrap, assign the same anchor to the wrap's ID (look for Custom | ID). Not NOT use the has sign. For example:
moreinfo
In the name of the wrap, put the anchor name in parentheses (optional, strongly recommended). For example, name the wrap:
MORE INFO SECTION (#moreinfo)
Icon box with small icon
The default Icon Box shortcode produces a pretty large icon. We sometimes need a smaller icon box, like the kind we use in the Down Divider.
Add the following class to the iconbox:
ic-smalliconbox
Foundational Thematic Statement
We use a thematic item for foundational statements on a page - a key statement that we believe or state. We use a common look for these kinds of items.
The easiest way to get a Foundational is to use the available Template. Choose Import/Template at the bottom of the builder.
Otherwise, for manual setup:
To make a Foundational item, use a Blockquote shortcode. Then add the following class to it:
ic-foundational
Pages
Creating a Page
- Turn on Hide Content
- Turn on Remove Padding
- Import the Standard Top Spacing template at the top of the post
- Consider using template elements to make the page similar to other pages on the site
- If you create a new wrap, consider saving it as a template
- Write a short excerpt of the post in the Excerpt box
Except box location: in the sidebar on the Document tab
It’s important to do this step - if we don’t do this, our posts our not going to look good in Google search results.
- Change the author to Impact City
Location of the author dropdown: in the sidebar on the Document tab
Posts
Creating a Post
- Put the title in the main editor on top of the muffin builder.
- Use title case (all significant words capitalized)
Title case: all significant words are capitalized
- Choose whether to write the post in the Content Editor or the Muffin Builder
- If using the Content Editor, include a WP Content block
- If using the Content Editor, turn on Hide Content
It may be easier to write the blog in the Wordpress Editor above the Muffin Builder. If you do, go to the Muffin Builder and insert a block called WP Content. That will bring the content into the block, and it will fit the content into the column size that you choose. Often we will use 1/6 space on the left and 2/3 column for the content.
In order to prevent the content from appearing twice, turn on Hide The Content in the Layout section below the builder.- Put a subtitle in the field called Secondary Title.
- Use sentence case
- No period at the end
Sentence case: capitalize only first word and proper nouns.
Secondary Title location: in the sidebar, on the Document tab next to the post, about halfway down the column.
- Write a short excerpt of the post in the Excerpt box
Except box location: in the sidebar on the Document tab
It’s important to do this step - if we don’t do this, our posts our not going to look good in Google search results.
- Choose Intro Header as template
- Set the intro image
To set the template: below the muffin builder in the Layout section, Template dropdown, choose Intro Header.
To set the image: continue lower to the Header Image, choose an image
- If the piece is an Impact City piece, change the author to Impact City
Location of the author dropdown: in the sidebar on the Document tab
- Select one category for the post
- Select as many tags as desired for the post
- To feature the post on the homepage, assign the Featured tag to the post
We use only a few categories, and lots of tags. Categories are meant to help identify where on the site the item goes, not what it is about. Use tags for identifying the topics in the post, and for featuring an item on the home page ("Featured").
